Preview
The Los Angeles Angels host the Kansas City Royals at Angel Stadium on Saturday, August 15, with first pitch scheduled for 9:38 PM ET. Reid Detmers gets the ball for the Halos, squaring off against Randy Dobnak for Kansas City. With the lineup card posted and the pitching matchup set, this is a prime opportunity for the Angels to build on their home record and put together a complete game on both sides of the ball.
Pitching Matchup: Reid Detmers vs. Randy Dobnak
Detmers has been one of the more intriguing arms in the Angels rotation. The left-hander has the stuff to keep hitters off-balance — a deceptive delivery, a sharp changeup, and the ability to eat innings when he is on. Saturday night at Angel Stadium is the kind of stage where Detmers has an opportunity to remind the league what he is capable of.
Dobnak lines up opposite him for Kansas City. The right-hander is a contact-management pitcher who relies on getting weak contact and working efficiently through lineups. He is the type of arm that can give a swinging-heavy lineup fits if they are not disciplined early in counts.

Keys to Watch
Mike Trout in the Heart of the Order
Batting second behind Meckler, Trout remains the gravitational center of this lineup. When Trout is locked in, he creates problems for opposing pitchers before Schanuel and Neto even step into the box. Dobnak will need a plan — and he will need to execute it — if he wants to keep Los Angeles off the board early.
Zach Neto Hitting Cleanup
Neto slotted into the four-hole is a statement of confidence from the Angels. The shortstop has developed into one of the team's most important offensive contributors, and protection behind Schanuel gives the middle of this order real teeth. Watch how Dobnak approaches the Neto at-bats, particularly with runners on base.
Moisés Ballesteros Making His Case
The young designated hitter is an interesting name to track in a spot where the Angels need production. Batting fifth and DHing gives Ballesteros a defined role, and Saturday night is a chance to make a statement against a manageable pitching opponent.
Detmers Limiting Traffic Early
The Angels win when Detmers keeps the game close and gives the bullpen a chance to breathe. If he can work deep into this game and limit Kansas City's ability to string together baserunners, Los Angeles should be in good shape heading to the late innings.
Prediction
The Angels have the lineup depth and the pitching matchup working in their favor at home Saturday night. Detmers handles the Royals through six innings, the middle of the order does enough damage against Dobnak, and Los Angeles takes this one at Angel Stadium. Angels win, 4-2.
