Preview

The Los Angeles Angels host the Texas Rangers at Angel Stadium on Monday, August 10, with first pitch scheduled for 9:38 PM ET. Reid Detmers gets the ball for the Halos against left-hander MacKenzie Gore in a matchup that carries real weight in the second half of the 2026 season. With a lineup built around the return of Mike Trout and the continued development of young pieces like Zach Neto and Nolan Schanuel, this is a game the Angels need to take seriously at home.

Pitching Matchup: Reid Detmers vs. MacKenzie Gore

Detmers gets the start for Los Angeles, and how he performs against a Rangers lineup that features legitimate offensive threats will say a lot about where he stands heading deeper into August. The left-hander has the stuff to attack hitters and keep the ball in the yard at Angel Stadium, but consistency deep into games remains the key question around his outings.

Gore takes the assignment for Texas and brings his own left-handed arsenal into Anaheim. He's the kind of pitcher who can neutralize a lineup when his command is sharp, and the Angels will need to be aggressive early against him rather than letting him settle in and dictate the at-bats.

Keys to Watch

Trout Batting Second

Mike Trout sliding into the two-hole behind Neto is a lineup construction worth monitoring. That placement puts Trout in position to do damage with a runner on base early and often. If Neto gets on, Rangers pitching has an immediate problem.

Stopping Seager and the Middle of the Texas Order

Corey Seager batting second for Texas is the name Detmers must neutralize. Seager is a left-handed hitter with the ability to drive the ball to all fields, and if he gets comfortable against Detmers, the Rangers can do real damage. Jake Burger and Brandon Nimmo lurking in the three through five slots make this a lineup that cannot be taken lightly.

Schanuel and Grissom Producing in the Middle

Nolan Schanuel hitting third and Vaughn Grissom cleaning up at four gives the Angels a legitimate middle-of-the-order threat. If Gore is going to be beaten tonight, those two are likely the ones doing it.

Prediction

This figures to be a tight, low-scoring game given the quality of both starters. Detmers has a chance to dominate at home if he commands his fastball and keeps Seager off the bases. The Angels offense gets just enough off Gore in the middle innings, with Grissom delivering the key blow. Angels win, 3-2.
