Preview
The Los Angeles Angels wrap up their road trip with a Sunday afternoon matinee against the Texas Rangers at Globe Life Field, first pitch set for 2:35 PM ET on August 23, 2026. Yusei Kikuchi gets the ball for Los Angeles against Rangers right-hander Cal Quantrill in a divisional matchup that carries AL West implications. Mike Trout bats second in the lineup as the designated hitter, anchoring an Angels offense that will need to produce early and often against a Rangers squad that sends out a deep and experienced batting order. Catch the game on ABTV or listen on KLAA 830.
Angels vs. Rangers Pitching Matchup: Kikuchi vs. Quantrill
Yusei Kikuchi draws the start for the Halos in a pivotal divisional game. The left-hander is the Angels' most trusted arm at the top of their rotation, and his ability to set the tone early will be critical on the road. If Kikuchi can work deep into the game and limit the damage from a Rangers lineup built around impact bats, Los Angeles has a real shot to steal this one.
Cal Quantrill takes the mound for Texas. Quantrill has shown the ability to generate soft contact and work efficiently through lineups, so the Angels will need to be disciplined at the plate and make him work in the zone. Squaring him up early in counts should be the approach for Zach Neto and company.

Keys to Watch for the Angels
Trout in the Middle of the Order
Mike Trout sliding into the two-hole gives the Angels a genuine threat early in the lineup. If Neto can get on base and create chaos at the top, Trout has the opportunity to drive in runs right away. That combination puts immediate pressure on Quantrill and could open the door for Moisés Ballesteros and Vaughn Grissom to do damage behind him.
Kikuchi's Command on the Road
Globe Life Field can be a hitter-friendly environment, and Quantrill is no pushover, so Kikuchi keeping the Rangers off the bases early is the ballgame. Corey Seager and Wyatt Langford are legitimate threats in the middle of Texas's order. If Kikuchi can navigate around them and keep the ball in the park, the Angels' bullpen should be able to handle the later innings.
Christian Moore's Development
The young second baseman draws the eight-spot and represents one of the more intriguing storylines for Angels fans this season. Watching Moore handle a veteran pitcher in Quantrill and make consistent contact is a small but meaningful measure of where this club's future is heading.
Prediction
This one figures to be a grind. Kikuchi versus Quantrill sets up as a tight, low-scoring affair where the first team to crack a big inning likely wins. The Rangers' lineup is deep and experienced, but the Angels have the tools to compete. Give the edge to Texas at home, but do not be surprised if Trout and the middle of the order make this interesting late. Rangers 4, Angels 3.
